Introduced species in North Karelia
Throughout history wars have shaped the landscapes all over the world also by bringing new plants to new places. This also happened during The Winter War and The Continuation War. Even today you can find approximately twenty plants that came to Finland from the Soviet Union during the wars. For example, the maintenance and camping sites in Karhumäki, Porajärvi and Ilomantsi that were used by the Soviet Union’s 155. division are places where you can find Dianthus superbus (Large pink).
