Water trekking Nurmijärvi Jongunjoki

The paddling section is easy, with slow-flowing river and lake. The route has one bridge and one or two portages where the canoe must be lifted or carried depending on water level, requiring moderate physical ability. At the starting point there is a lean-to and a dry toilet, and the route has a sandy bottom beach at Nurmijärvi. Part of the area is a waterfowl breeding area and movement should be avoided in early summer during breeding and when the chicks are small. On the lake sections, the route can be extended and you can enjoy lake paddling. Further ahead, on the shores of Puuruunjärvi, there are Stone Age dwelling sites and close to the route there are partially submerged armored obstacles ending in the lake. Along the route there are some water nature trail information boards.

The route requires moderate physical fitness and balance, because you also have to get out of the canoe along the way. One portage to be crossed is ridge-like.

Paddling down Jongunjoki to Nurmijärvi, from where through a beach to Akanlampi, portage crossing. After the portage crossing comes Puuruunjärvi, from which a small river, Puuruunjoki, connects this lake to Jongunjoki.
