Ukko-Koli demanding accessible route

After a challenging ascent, the demanding and accessible route of Ukko-Koli rewards you with breathtaking scenery. On the observation deck, you can feel like you're floating on the border between heaven and earth.

Description

The route starts from the yard of the Koli Nature Centre Uko and dives into the forest behind the nature centre. From the radio mast, the graveled trail begins to climb steeply into the mossy moss forest, past the junction with Akka-Koli. As you pass through the old fir forest, you know you are high up, as the sky peers through the gaps in the trees to meet you. Soon you come to a junction, where you turn left towards the final climb to Ukko-Kol. Just before the steep stone steps, the route turns right through the trees, towards the classic view of Koli overlooking Pielisi. On the unobstructed viewing platform, the sky is so close that you can almost touch the clouds. The return route is the same, and you can have a picnic lunch at the Prime Minister's fireplace next to the nature centre. Access to the fire is barrier-free. There is no wood service at the fireplace, so you can bring your own wood or buy firewood from the Koli Nature Centre Uko or the hotel. If you wish, you can also enjoy the nature centre's accessible services, including shops, cafés and exhibitions.
