Tetrijärvi route, Mujejärvi Nurmes

The Mujejärvi nature reserve is a suitable destination for hikers who want to walk in peace. There are a total of 30 kilometers of trails in the area, of which the most popular is the 9-kilometer-long Tetrijärvi route. In the Mujejärvi area, you travel through a wild landscape of cliffs, ridges, and lakes, but also through pine forests in some places.

On the Tetrijärvi route, you walk along boardwalks through marsh areas, whose colors change through the seasons from the vibrant hues of autumn foliage to the green of summer. The scenery changes from marshlands to magical old forests, adorned with thick moss carpets. Above all, on the Tetrijärvi route, you encounter dark wilderness lake landscapes and their inhabitants. The area is a nature reserve, but you can pick berries and mushrooms for your own use. Mujejärvi offers plenty of natural gifts to collect.

• The jetties and boardwalks can be slippery in rainy weather.

• There may be dead zones in the area.
• Carry first aid supplies with you.
• Be careful - do not leave fires unattended. The last person to leave must ensure the fire is extinguished. Open fires are prohibited during forest and grass fire warnings as well as in strong winds.

• Drive to Hiltuslahti from Nurmes via Kuhmontie towards Kuhmo for 29 km, then turn right. From the intersection, it is 19 km to the Hiltuslahti parking area. There are several directional signs on the road to Hiltuslahti.
• To Talvilahti, drive from Nurmes on Kuhmontie towards Kuhmo for 41 km, then turn right. At the intersection, there is a sign for Mujejärvi 27 km. The Talvilahti parking area is 15 km away. You can reach Talvilahti by following the signs to Tetrijärvi. At the intersection there is a sign to the right for Tetrijärvi 4 km. The Talvilahti parking spot is 4 km straight ahead.

You can start the Tetrijärvi route either from the Hiltuslahti or Talvilahti parking area. The route marker is an orange stripe on top of a red-black stripe. From the Hiltuslahti parking area, head along Kukonsärkkä towards Kukonlampi. After Kukonlampi, turn left and continue straight towards Hiltuskangas. The route passes through the old forest of Hiltuskangas, after which you turn left. The route goes through the Tetrijärvi lean-to shelter, following the eastern shore of Tetrijärvi. On the northern shore is the Tetrijärvi rental cabin, from which the route proceeds towards the Talvilahti parking area. After the parking area, the route heads towards Hiltuslahti, partly following the eastern shore of Mujejärvi.
