Surmilampi Trail, Liperi Kinttupolut
Surmilampi Trail winds over majestic pine ridges and along the shores of beautiful kettle ponds. There are three lean-tos along the route where you can take a snack break.
Description
Surmilampi Trail is a challenging route in Liperi's Kinttupolut. The challenge comes especially from about 200 meters of ascent over just 6.5 km. The technical difficulty of the paths varies from easy tractor roads to challenging cobblestone trails. Combined with steep climbs and descents, this route offers a challenge for all fitness levels. Surmilampi Trail is marked on the terrain with turquoise color.
The route's special feature is large round depressions called kettle holes, formed during the Ice Age as large ice blocks melted among gravel ridges.
The Liperi Kinttupolut network includes a total of eight excellently marked routes.
Liperi Kinttupolut connect via an 8 km long connecting route to the Lykynpolut network, and from there further via Jaama Trail to other uniformly marked routes in the Joensuu region. There are just under 200 km of marked trails, so you can easily spend several hiking days on them!

Location & Parking
Drive from Joensuu along highway 9 toward Kuopio for about 10 km, exit at junction 21, then follow the signs to Pärnävaara sports center.
There is regular bus service from Joensuu to Jyrinkylä, from whose terminal stop (Jyrinlenkki) it is 900 meters along Urheilutie to the Pärnävaara sports center, from where you can best access the routes.

Free parking is available at the lower or upper platforms of the Pärnävaara sports center. Starting the routes from the lower platform parking is more convenient.
Directions
Surmilampi Trail is marked on the terrain with turquoise color and can be accessed via other marked routes of Kinttupolut. The nearest parking lot is located at the Pärnävaara outdoor center, from where you can reach Surmilampi Trail by following the Pärnä trail clockwise (black guide color) and Heinälampi trail (green guide color).
At the routes' intersections in the terrain, guide maps show your location easily. It is easy to stay on the route thanks to good guidance.
