About 16 kilometers long hiking trail passes through forested heath landscapes, mire and grove scenery, sandy shores of the lake, and the babbling of forest brooks. You can spend a day or several days on the hike enjoying the scenery, camping, fishing, and relaxing near the sparkling lake in the wilderness.
In the wetlands, you may encounter beaver dams, birdlife, and other interesting animals. Along the trail, you can also find dead pine trees, a driving dam, and even a geocache. Boardwalks and walking bridges ease passage in the wettest places. The route features several well-maintained rest areas and shallow sandy beaches suitable for swimming.
The Suomunkierto route can be started either from the Suomun Nature Cabin, the Kurkilahti parking area, or the Surkanpuro parking area (map). The trail has no major elevation changes and the terrain is easy to walk, so the route is suitable even for the youngest family members.
