Suomunkierto – A Wilderness Lake Loop in the Heart of Patvinsuo National Park

In the wetlands you can encounter beaver dams, birdlife and other interesting animals. You'll also find cobblestones, a swimming dam and even a geocache. Long trees and footbridges make it easier to walk in the wetter areas. There are several well-maintained rest stops and shallow sandy beaches suitable for swimming.

You can start from either the Suomu Nature Centre, the Kurkilahti car park or the Surkanpuro car park. There are no big differences in altitude and the terrain is easy to negotiate, making it suitable for the smallest members of the family.

• Open fires during forest or grass fire warnings and in high winds are prohibited.
• Be careful - do not leave the fire alone. Last to leave, make sure the fire is out.
• In rainy and wet weather, longitudinal trees, rocks and roots can be very slippery.

• You'll need rubber boots or sturdy off-road shoes. Bring enough warm clothes.
• Please keep your pets tied up.
• It's a good idea to bring mosquito repellent in the summer. You won't need a compass. GSM phone functionality is patchy, but the trail is well marked.
