St. Paraskeva path at Lintula Monastery
The short St. Paraskeva path offers diverse forest terrain, lake views, and numerous rest benches near Lintula Monastery. Along the route, there is a chapel and a campfire site.
Description
The total length of the route is about 1.5 kilometers. When hiking clockwise, the route leaves the cattle track to the left forming about a one-kilometer loop, returning to the same track.
After leaving the track, the first tens of meters are walked through a fern grove on boardwalks. On the shore of Lake Koskijärvi, there is the St. Paraskeva chapel and a campfire site. While sitting at the campfire site, you can admire the beautiful rocky slope rising on the opposite shore. Shortly after the campfire site, another resting place on the slope is also excellent for viewing the lake and the rock.
After the second rest bench, the path climbs onto a rock, circles the glacial boulders, and descends near the shore cliff of Saunavirta. At the steepest point of the path, a rope handrail fixed between trees helps the descent. The last few hundred meters back to the monastery follow an old cattle track.
The most distinctive trees on the route are Siberian firs. Along the path, there are also larches, a young aspen grove, and numerous decayed trees.
Walk in silence on the path, respecting fellow walkers as well as the peace of nature.
