Särkiselkä nature trail, Outokumpu

Experience magnificent ridge landscapes and varied terrain around the lakes in the beautiful nature of Outokumpu - a treasure of Outokumpu. There are several resting places along the route.

Description

A versatile circular route with ridge and lake views at the Outokumpu wilderness and nature center, about five kilometers from Outokumpu city center. There are several rest stops along the route; lean-tos, shelters, and campfire sites. At Särkiselkä beach you can also swim by fine sandy shores.

The nature trail consists of forest service roads and paths, some of which are very rocky. There are also small bridges along the route, as well as ascents, descents, and stairs.

By Lake Ravijärvi there is also a family-friendly nature spot, a children's fishing area that is accessible. The Karhu Pavilion located at the children's fishing spot can accommodate twenty or so hikers, perfect for coffee brewed on the campfire. The Salmi shelter in the wilderness and nature center area is also suitable for people with mobility impairments. 

Safety

The exposed rocks on the route can be slippery in wet weather.

About 5 km from Outokumpu city center to Särkiselkä via Rikkarannantie.

Author tips:

There are plenty of lean-tos and campfire sites along the route, where you can rest and enjoy the natural treasure of Outokumpu. Nearby is also Finland's most beautiful beach -22, a camping area, café, and a children's fishing spot. In addition to hiking, you can also paddle in the area.

You can also join the route from Mustantammi, Salmi, or the Children's fishing spot. The destinations are signposted along Ravilahdentie. All locations have parking areas.
