River Pielisjoki: Paihola beach-Pitkäniemi
Description
Along the way, paddlers will be spoilt by the diverse river nature, numerous islands and abundant waterfowl. The Pielisjoki was once a mighty, free-flowing salmon river, and its history is still evident in the river's landscape. The river's banks are dotted with beautiful sandbanks, which stand out, especially at low water, and provide excellent resting places. On a warm summer's day, it's nice to go ashore for a picnic and a refreshing dip in the river water.
The river is dotted with residential areas and summer cottages, so paddlers should be aware of the people living along the banks and observe good manners. There are also boats and logs still floating on the Pielis River, which is something to bear in mind when planning your trip.
The Pielisjoki paddling route is the perfect choice if you are looking for a beautiful, accessible and safe paddling destination where nature, history and summer relaxation meet.
