Read the Retkipaikka.fi story: 3 kilometers of Patvinsuo’s oldest virgin forest – Kuusipolku has almost too much to explore
Kuusipolku - The treasure of old enchanted forests in Patvinsuo National Park
Kuusipolku is a magical route hidden in old slash-and-burn lands, with plenty to explore and marvel at. The hiking trail runs by the side of the fell, and the surrounding vegetation is very different compared to other nearby routes. The route is demanding due to elevation changes and root-filled paths.
Description
The trail follows the sides of the fell, and during runoff water times the area becomes especially fascinating. On the hike, you can hear and see many kinds of birds, as the mixed forest is their favored habitat. Bird rarities may include blue-fronted redstart, spotted flycatcher, or wood sandpiper. Flying squirrels and martens also inhabit the dim old forest. Bracket fungi and decomposer fungi color the scenery, and the circumference of huge aspens can be up to three meters.
Information boards tell about nature and the history of the area. Boardwalks make walking on the route easier, and you can enjoy your trail snacks around the picnic table group at the Autiovaara parking area. The route is marked with blue painted signs.
