Kuusipolku – A Treasure of Ancient Fairytale Forests in Patvinsuo National Park

The Spruce Trail is a fairytale trail hidden in the old birch forests, with plenty to explore and wonder about. The trail runs along the edge of the dike and the surrounding vegetation is very different from other nearby trails, and the route is demanding because of the altitude differences and the rudimentary paths.

Description

The trail follows the hills of the dike and during the runoff, the area becomes particularly fascinating. A wide variety of birds can be heard and seen, as the mixed forest is their favourite habitat. Bird rarities may include the blue-tailed godwit, the little egret or the dunlin, while pterosaurs and weasels also inhabit the shady old forest.Dwarf and decaying mushrooms colour the landscape and huge aspen trees can be up to three metres in circumference.

Signposts provide information about nature and the history of the area. Long trees make the route easier to follow and picnic lunches can be enjoyed at a group of tables in the Autiovaara car park. The route is marked by blue landmarks.
