Directions
The journey begins by taking the main road of Koli, Kolintie. The first 5 kilometers are warmed up and prepared for the gravel day's delights on a smoothly rolling paved road. Gravel starts at the Ryynäskyläntie intersection. Through the winding gravel roads in the rural landscape, the route heads back to the Koli tourism area, where partly also well-surfaced ski trails are used. The route rushes through the Loma Koli and Camping area, progressing on ski and gravel roads towards Koli Harbor. The harbor restaurant is the first opportunity to take a break for ice cream or coffee. From Koli Harbor, the journey continues along the star route of gravel roads – Koli Coastal Road. At about 33 kilometers, you dive into Koli National Park. You never get tired of the Coastal Road. The breathtaking views keep the mind alert and the refreshing route profile keeps the muscles warm.
The southernmost point of the route is reached at about 61 kilometers. From there, the journey begins to turn back. Ahead is a small paved road section, about 3.5 km, after which you gradually start maneuvering towards the Alps of North Karelia, the zone of hills. The Kiviniemi Tourist Farm at 74.5 km offers some relief for the journey. If the café is not open, at least you can refill your water bottle at the farm's water point. You dive back into Koli National Park after about 93 kilometers of riding. About four kilometers later, you exit the national park and climb a hill at Paimentupa Tourist Farm. At the same time, one of the area's most legendary field and hill landscapes opens up to the view, with horses grazing. The scenery quite probably forces you to stop for one more photo moment, even though you are almost at the finish line. The last two kilometers run on bike paths that lead straight to the heart of Koli Village – the route's endpoint.
