Kalliojärvi route (Joensuu)
The versatile 3.5 km Kalliojärvi route culminates in majestic rocky cliff scenery. Along the route, there is a small boardwalk section and an idyllic lean-to shelter.
Description
The Kalliojärvi route circles Kalliojärvi located in a gorge landscape. On the trail, you see majestic rocky cliffs, pine-dominated areas, swamp terrain, and spruce forests. The trail is marked with blue signs. At 300 meters from the parking area, the route forks. Choosing the right fork means circling the route counterclockwise, with a break at the lean-to shelter conveniently located towards the end of the hike.
One-third of the route passes through a nature reserve. On the northern edge of Kalliojärvi, the trail ascends gently while going counterclockwise until the cliffs at the lean-to rise tens of meters high. At the steepest spots, wire railings protect hikers, but special caution is advised when hiking with small children.
The route is not maintained in winter, but a person walking to the lean-to on snowshoes on a winter evening may be rewarded with an owl's call.
Safety
- Be especially careful when with small children. The route has high cliffs from which one could fall into the lake.
- In rainy weather, the boardwalk, rocks, stones, and roots are slippery.
- The boardwalks are partly old, which should be taken into account when walking on them.
- A small first aid kit is recommended
