Kaisa's training tip - pole lines from the harbour and from the slope

Koli's traditional skiers' pole route is from the harbour to the corner of Hotel Koli, but alternatively you can do the pole route from the Rantati road at the corner of Rinnekahvila Rinnetuvan up to Ipati or the hotel. The climbs are long enough and the steepness varies nicely. You'll definitely get a hard workout here.

Description

"From the harbour up to the hotel there are two wide paths, where it is good to use poles. The shorter route from the harbour to the hotel is 1.9 km, the longer one is about 2.2 km. Both paths start from the same point straight up from the harbour but soon fork (junction 43). From the bottom, the one on the left is shorter and has steeper sections, which I recommend using on the way up, but on the way down you can run the other route if you want a slightly more runnable and gentle route.

There is about 210 metres of ascent in one climb, so even with just five climbs you get 1000 metres of ascent! Depending on your pace, it takes about 20min+ to walk up the slope.

If you want to climb even steeper, take the route from Rinnetuva along the ski slope, where you will find a good path all the way either on the slope of Ipati or to the corner of the hotel. The distance to the top is only 1,2km but the ascent is the same as from the harbour. It takes about 15-17min walking time." - Kaisa Mäkäräinen
