Description
You can reach the Jänissaari shelter and the trail around the island either from Paksuniemi harbor or from the Rääkkylä church village trail. The ice track includes both skating and classic ski tracks. From Paksuniemi harbor to the Jänissaari shelter is about 2.4 km, and the route in total is about 5 km if you don’t go around Jänissaari. Circling the island adds about 5 km more. If you come onto the ice track from the church village trail, there is only a classic ski track between the lit trail and the ice, which adds five kilometers to the length. Overall, it is possible to circle about 15 km. The ice track is maintained according to snow and ice conditions. Fires can be made at the Jänissaari shelter. There is a wood storage and toilet nearby. In summer, the shelter can be reached by boat. At Paksuniemi, ice swimming and sauna are available.
