Jaama Trail, easy circular route around Joensuu
Jaama Trail connects the beautiful shores, urban nature sites, sandy ridges, and pine needle trails of the Joensuu region into a 60 km long circular route.
Description
Jaama Trail connects the beautiful shores, urban nature sites, fine sandy ridges, and enjoyable pine needle trails of the Joensuu region into a 60-kilometer circular route.
The southern part of the route runs along the shores of the Pielisjoki and Pyhäselkä. This section is easy walking terrain, and there are several shops, cafés, and service stations along the way. The northern part runs along paths, fitness tracks, and forest roads. There are five lean-tos or campfire sites for breaks. There are seven beaches on the route.
On the ridges of Kylmäoja and between the Hirvisärkkä and Häikänniemi branches, there are some rocky, rooty, and pleasantly challenging sections for mountain bikers. Overall, the route is suitable for cyclists with modest off-road skills because the difficult sections are at most a few hundred meters and can be managed by walking alongside the bike.
The route is marked with orange dots and guide signs. There are several map boards along the way.
Jaama Trail is part of Joensuu’s network of routes that is over 200 kilometers long and connects with the Lehmo–Utranharju Harjupolut, Lykynlampi Lykynpolut, Liperi Kinttupolut, and Kontiolahti Kontionpolut trail systems. From Kontiolahti routes, you can continue along Kolinpolku all the way to Koli.

Directions
Jaama Trail is marked in the terrain with orange colors. The guidance varies.
The wooden signposts of Jaama Trail at intersections display either Jaama Trail or the name of the next destination along with the distance to it, such as "Lykynlampi 7.4". You can recognize these signs by the orange dot of the Jaama Trail's sign color.
In the terrain, the guidance is clearest and easy to follow. Orange dots are painted on trees. At intersections in the terrain, there is a post with orange color at the top and brown-based direction arrows.
In urban areas, route guidance is partially discontinuous, and it is recommended to carry either a paper guide map or use a GPS device for navigation. In urban areas, lighting poles have orange tape or white tape painted with an orange dot. Occasionally, there are also wooden poles with orange paint on top in urban areas.
