Ilomantsi illuminated track 3.5–7.2 km
On the illuminated tracks of Ilomantsi, you can ski a challenging fitness route or an easy ski trail. Thanks to the bypass tracks, the lit route can be adapted to every preference. There is a lean-to shelter on the demanding Havukka additional loop.
Description
A demanding section leaves the Parppei sports center field, turns right, and climbs Parppeinvaara, offering a nice challenge right at the start of skiing. The friend of a gentler track turns left from the field edge and continues on the Parppei bypass trail.
The tracks reconnect back to the same route just before the Möhköntie underpass. Soon after the 5.3 km turning point is a track camera, which communicates the track condition during the winter season; the camera image is online but does not record skiers.
If you choose the Parppei bypass at the beginning instead of climbing Parppeinvaara, the longest lit route amounts to 6.5 km.
From the 7.2 km loop turning point, turn left onto the 1.6 km unlit and demanding Havukka loop. The difficult climbs and descents test the skier, yet the loop is definitely worth experiencing. Majestic scenery, ancient spruce forests, and fascinating cultural history. A pleasant break can be taken at the lean-to shelter, where the additional loop climbs are already behind you.
The ski track lights turn on in the afternoon with a twilight switch and turn off at 9 p.m. The lights do not turn on in the morning. The frost limit for the lights is –24 °C.
