Description
The Aconitum tour invites the traveler
Tohmajärvi nature trails guide travelers through the varied landscapes and nature of Tohmajärvi. The Aconitum tour, true to its name, takes travelers to the Monkshood grove of Piilovaara. Along the trails, there are numerous information boards about nature and cultural history. The trail is mainly suitable for walking or trail running. The route has many boardwalks and a challenging climb where a helping rope eases the ascent. The nature trail can be accessed from the cemetery parking lot next to Kirkkotie. The Aconitum route coincides with the Kirkkoniemi trail.
Safety
Boardwalks can be slippery at times. Lush terrain often blocks parts of the path.
Directions
The trail starts from the old cemetery parking lot along the edge of the asphalt road about 1 km away from the church. A path marked with yellow paint marks starts on the left side of the road. Along the route, there are signs and boards telling about nature and the history of the trail, 16 in total. After completing this trail, you reach the cemetery about 4 km away, from where the path continues along a gravel road. Along the trail, there is an outhouse, a campfire site, and the 'Dreams' beach. The path ends at Tohmajärvi church, next to which is the summer café Pitäjän Tupa.
