Accessible route at Neitikoski in the rapids scenery of Ruunaa

The accessible route at Neitikoski takes you from the Neitikoski parking area along a scenic route to the water’s edge. You cannot avoid the wonderful lake views of Ruunaa on this route!

The route is 600 m long in one direction and takes you back to the starting point the same way. The first 200 m of the path is on a gravel road classified as a demanding wheelchair route. After the challenging beginning, the route becomes an easy boardwalk path. 

There are resting places and two viewing platforms along the route that allow for a more peaceful hiking experience. If you want additional activities along the way, you should bring fishing gear! There are also several white water rafting operators in the area who are equipped to transport customers with mobility limitations in their boats. There are also several campfire sites where it’s pleasant to eat your packed lunch. 

At the starting point of the route at the Neitikoski parking area, there is an accessible dry toilet. However, it is recommended to bring your own toilet paper.

• Carry first aid supplies with you.
• On rainy and wet days, the boardwalks can be very slippery.
• Be careful - do not leave fire unattended. The last person leaving, make sure the fire is out.
• Open fire is prohibited during forest or grass fire warnings and in strong winds. Check warnings!

The nearest bus (matkahuolto.fi) and train connections (vr.fi) go to Lieksa. You can reach Ruunaa by carpool from Lieksa or you can use transport services.

The route is easy to walk, flat, and passable back and forth. Please remember to give space to those using wheelchairs and strollers.
