Ukonsärkkä – The Realm of Ancient Bark-Clad Pines
Description
The Ukonarka area has been transferred from protected nature reserve forest status to an old-growth forest conservation programme. The northern part of the Ukonarka has recently been thinned.
You will need a paper map for this hike, as there are many forest roads in the area and GSM coverage is poor in the area.

Tools and equipment
- You'll need sturdy off-road footwear. On the way to the lodge there are some poorly maintained longitudinal trees, so you can get your shoes wet, otherwise the trail is on a ridge and follows dry terrain.
- Bring enough warm clothes and a drink.
- Mosquito repellent is a good idea.
- GSM phone does not work in the area, the trail is clearly visible in the terrain. It is recommended to bring a paper map or download the outdooractive app.
