North Karelia is located in eastern part of Finland, close to the Russian border. It is surrounded by 6 different National Parks and wildlife observatory.

Day 1: Arrival day in Finland, drive to North Karelia

Arrival by own car to North Karelia, to village of Eno (30 minutes drive from Joensuu)

Eno is a small village located 35 km from the city of Joensuu. From Eno it is 45 min - 1 hour to 3 different national parks, one recreational area and 1 hour drive from EräEero observation area. Eno has 2 shops and it is a lively village on River Pielisjoki. Upon arrival you will meet the owner of the cottage, who will introduce you a cottage, where you are staying.
About the cottage: this cottage was built 2013 and it is a log cabin in a wilderness. Cabin is 80 m² and has 4 beds in the main cabin. Cabin is situated by a small lake, which is 4 km long. In addition to the main building there is a sauna lodge also available for guest’s use. Additional information:

Day 2: Heading to the wilderness camp

Drive to the camp (1 hour from your cabin), to observatory lodge The base of the Finnish predator photography and observation lodges is in Lieksa area, where a former loggers’ cabin has been renovated and altered for tourism purposes. Wolverines are the most important target, but you can also photograph bears (except during the hibernation time), foxes and various birds there. With luck, you can also spot beavers, lynxes, wolves, swans and various waterfowls.

Basic program at wilderness camp:
In the afternoon arrival in the lodge, where welcoming coffee / tea with a snack is served. During the welcome you will also hear the introduction of the organizing company, info about the animals and watching wildlife.
Short transfer to the watching place by car. The best time to spot the animals is in the evening, during the nighttime and early in the morning. Evening snack packages available during the evening. Each guest has a possibility to sleep also in a wilderness lodge (basic accommodation with various bunk beds with mattress and sleeping bag, dry toilets, no electricity)

Day 3: Wilderness program continues
08:00 Breakfast will be served at the main building

Possibility to go to the sauna / shower in the morning

Rest in the main building

14:00 Lunch at the main building

15:30 - 08:00 Staying in a observation lodge and observing animals (evening snacks provided) → guests can choose either observation lodge or photographer’s cabin.

Day 4: Wilderness program continues
08:00 Breakfast will be served at the main building

Possibility to go to the sauna / shower in the morning

Rest in the main building

Optional activity 09:00 - 13:00 “Spotting the beaver” - trip with a professional guide

14:00 Lunch at the main building

15:30 - 08:00 Staying in a observation lodge and observing animals (evening snacks provided) → guests can choose either observation lodge or photographer’s cabin.


Day 5: Departure from the wilderness camp
08:00 Breakfast will be served at the main building

Possibility to go to the sauna / shower in the morning

Check-out from the wilderness lodge

Driving back to the cabin (same cabin customers had first night)

Rest in a cabin / acc. in a cabin

Day 6: Guided canoeing trip at national park (full day)
09:00 Meet your local guide at the cabin.

Transfer to the starting point of canoeing (Patvinsuo National Park), 45 minutes

09:45 - 15:15 Canoeing trip in the wilderness including outdoor lunch and snacks. After trip transfer back to the cabin.

16:00 Arrival back to the cabin

Day 7: Guided hiking trip (full day)
09:00 Meet your local guide at the cabin

Transfer to the starting point of hiking trip (Kolvanan Uuro), 30 minutes

09:30 - 15:30 Hiking trip in the wilderness including outdoor lunch and snacks. After trip transfer back to the cabin.

16:00 Arrival back to the cabin

Day 8: Free day for activities
The cabin is located 1 hour from the following national parks / recreational areas and you could choose which one you would like to visit:
Patvinsuo National park
Petkeljärvi National park
Koli National park
Ruunaa recreational area

Day 9: Departure day
Check-out from the cabin until 12h00

Driving to Helsinki (app. 6 hours)
