Day 1:
Arrival in city of Joensuu, the capital of North Karelia

The River Pielisjoki has always been the lively heart of Joensuu. Throughout the centuries Karelian traders have travelled along the river and the canals with steamboats, barges and logging boats. The Pielisjoki has also been an important route for log-floating and has provided wood to the sawmills and the entire lumber industry. Nowadays you could experience the river with canoes, safari boats or Stand Up Paddle boards. From Joensuu it is app. 1 hour drive to other Karelian sights, for example Karelian village in Ilomantsi, Koli Nationalpark or Ruunaa rapids.

Original Sokos Hotel Kimmel is located in the beautiful Sirkkala-park by the River Pielisjoki. Original Sokos Hotel Kimmel is named after the fast-flowing River Pielisjoki and its glimmering foam. Hotel is also located only a few minutes' walk from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Bus and train stations are located right across the street from our hotel. It is also easy to reach us by plane, since the airport shuttle bus will get from Joensuu Airport to the hotel in a blink of an eye. Hotel is a full-service provider: food, drink, good night's sleep, relaxation and evening fun. Dinner in a restaurant of client's own choice (the dinner is not included into the price).

SUP Course for Beginners in Joensuu (2 hours)

During this SUP beginner tour, you will learn all the basics of Stand Up Paddling in a safe environment. The skills will include getting on the board and standing up, how to use the board and paddle, and basic paddling techniques. The only way to learn paddling is in the water, so after the short safety brief on dry land we will start the paddling tour on the beautiful Pielisjoki river and Pyhäselkä lake. Our guide helps you throughout the tour and gives you enough challenges on the board regardless of whether you are a first timer or have done Stand Up Paddling before. This tour is also suitable for children starting from 10 years.

For the afternoon we recommend (with extra charge):
- visiting lively Joensuu marketplace (fresh seasonal products and nice atmosphere)
- visiting Botania, a botanical garden and tropical butterfly garden
- visiting “Taitokortteli”, which is a a handcraft and culture quarter in the center of Joensuu
- visiting Karelian Village in Ilomantsi (app. 1 hour drive from Joensuu)
- wilderness cooking course or bushcraft program in the wilderness close to city centre

Day 3:

Check-out and driving to Koli Nationalpark (app. 1 hour)

When you want to get away from it all, need a burst of energy or need time for yourself or your family, head for Koli. Break Sokos Hotel Koli is located in the picturesque Koli National Park, close to the peaks of Koli. The view towards Lake Pielinen seems to continue forever and ever, and the sky is breathtakingly close. You will feel relaxed simply by admiring the view.

Day 4:

A scenic hiking tour (1,5 hours) in the heart of the Lakeland area includes visits to Koli’s most famous panoramic views and the highest points in the Koli National Park. During the tour, your guide tells you interesting facts and stories about Koli, its history, nature and culture, as well as information on artists, who have found inspiration from the Koli hills area. Spectacular views are seen throughout this tour, and you have plenty of time to enjoy them and take photos of the natural beauty. Welcome to discover Koli National Park with us!

Lunch in a restaurant of client's own choice (the dinner is not included into the price)

For the afternoon we recommend (with extra charge):
- visiting Paateri church and Eva Ryynänen Atelier (app. 1 hour drive)
- sightseeing cruise at Lake Pielinen (starting point app. 10 min from the hotel)
- Icelandic horse riding (starting point app. 10 min from the hotel)

Day 5:

Check-out and driving to Nurmes (app. 1 hour)

Nurmes region is situated in the eastern part of Finland, in the province of North Karelia. Truly unspoiled surroundings, pure crystal clear water and clean air. The lakes offers a great playground for activities throughout the year. The Bomba House and Karelian Holiday Resort, along with the Bomba Spa with its bubbling pools and baths, offer relaxation and invigoration whenever you feel the need.

For the afternoon we recommend (with extra charge):
- White river rafting at Ruunaa area (driving distance 1 hour/one way)
- Fishing trip on the Lake Pielinen
- Visiting city of Nurmes, which is full of small shops and local bakeries
- Visiting guesthouses in Valtimo (app. 30 min from Nurmes), if you wish to get the feeling of living like a local and taste the pure Karelian kitchen
