The rich Karelian traditions are clearly visible in the pieces of handicrafts and design of the region. The different kinds of fabrics, wood, wrought iron, soapstone, clay and other natural materials such as wicker or birch bark turn into extraordinary ornaments and unique household items in the hands of local masters.

There are a lot of art galleries, private dressmaker’s shops, clay and ceramics workshops in North Karelia. The supply in different places is worth having a look at. High-quality handicrafts, art by local masters and souvenirs can be bought in small stalls and shops all over the region.
