Central Karelia: lakes and hills
The landscapes of the southern-most part of North Karelia, Central Karelia, are dominated by lakes and hills. Kitee and Rääkkylä are characterised by large lakes, such as Puruvesi, Pyhäjärvi and Orivesi. Tohmajärvi is hilly and climbing the hills will be rewarded with views that extend beyond the borders of Finland. There are approximately 19,000 inhabitants in Central Karelia. The town of Kitee is the centre of the region. The city has a functional service structure, which makes everyday life run smoothly. You can take up various hobbies from rally driving to flying and choir singing to amateur theatre.
