Lutheran Church of Rääkkylä

Rääkkylä’s Lutheran Church was built in 1851. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland is the national church of Finland.

At the end of 2010, 78.2% of the Finns were members of the church (4,2 million). The head of the church is the Archbishop of Turku, currently Kari Mäkinen.

Museum of Rääkkylä and Mill museum of Paksuniemi

The museum of Rääkkylä is a local home area museum that contains items related to peasant culture.

In the Mill musum of Paksuniemi there is an old mill in working order. The museum has a copy of a
boat sewed in the 12th century.

Kihaus Folk Festival

In the beginning of 70´s in Rääkkylä there was a local party called Heinähupa, which was a village party with dancing and amateur theatre. In the beginning of 1990’s people thought that Rääkkylä should have an own folk music festival and so the Kihaus was born. The festival is organised by Rääkkylä Folk Association.

The Kihaus Folk Festival in July offers every summer a great range of music from rap to folk music. (www.kihaus.fi)

Birdwatching towers and nature

Birdwatching towers in Jouhtenuslampi, Kiesjärvi,
Ruokosalmi and Vuoniemi offer excellent opportunities for the bird watchers.

The areas of Kirkkovuori and Vuoniemi are partly protected under the EU´s Natura 2000 programme.These areas offer beautiful sceneries and rare plant species.
